CARITAS MACAU’S RESPONSE TO INTERNATIONAL APPEAL FOR HUMANITARIAN CAUSES
In these years, the problem of galloping inflation has pushed 87% of the population living below the poverty line. People in general did not have enough money to buy food. They lack food and are suffering from acute malnutrition. Child and expectant mothers are particular vulnerable as under-nutrition will have a long term impact on the country’s youngest citizens.
Through co-operation with Caritas Portugal, Caritas Macau sponsored the shipment of humanitarian aid supplies to Venezuela in February 2020 amounting to approximately EUR5,800. The humanitarian aid supplies included 3000 units of baby and children nutrition supplements, 5000 units for pregnant women, and 3000 units for women that are breastfeeding. The items were donated by the Pharmacy Union in Portugal, which was unable to find resources to ship these items to children and mothers. Through the donations from benefactors, Caritas Macau provided support for this project.
