Introduction

Since 1985, Caritas Macao has dispatched counsellors to schools to promote school social work. Starting in 2000, we are subsidized by government and offer school counselling service.

Objective

Adhering to the "people-oriented" philosophy, we provide students in school or in dropout, who have difficulties in academic, social, emotional, family, a range of assistance, including solving personal problems, maximising educational opportunities, preparing for adulthood. Through the school counselling service, students can establish positive interactive relationships in schools, communities and families. The process also encourages individuals to build a network of social resources for the promotion of personal development.

Types of Service

  • Promoting school adaptation Build harmonious relationships, develop potentials, improve learning skills, and build career plans that are conducive to growth.

  • Enhancing awareness of physical and mental health (emotional management, behaviour control) Improve students' emotional and behavioural management skills to meet the needs of the social environment, help to understand their own physiological and psychological changes, develop students' self-recognition and self-esteem.

  • Promoting positive interaction between family and friends Improve social skills, overcome interpersonal barriers, and establish interactions with family, friends and opposite gender.

  • Consultation and referral Provide advice in response to the needs of students, parents and teaching staffs.
